It’s no surprise that Harrow is a popular place to live, especially when you consider everything it has to offer. From top schools to good transport links, great residential streets to vibrant town centres, it ticks so many boxes. There have been a number of interesting stories recently about housing in the borough too. Let’s have a closer look, then you can trust us if you want to arrange guaranteed rent in Harrow and more.
A development site
Firstly, there was news about an interesting development plot coming on to the market. The site is 1.86 acres. It’s an impressive location, in easy walking distance of local amenities and West Harrow Tube Station. Valued at £2.25m, it could be a great opportunity.
The most notable thing here is the plot already has planning permission for housing. Plans to build three blocks with a total of 37 homes got approval. So, prospective developers could get to work very quickly. However, the listing claims the land could be viable for alternative commercial uses, including storage, if plans were drawn up and approved by the council.
Warehouse redevelopment
The second story involves new plans to demolish a small warehouse in Stanmore and build a block of four one-bed flats on the site. It will also include an outdoor communal garden plus space for bicycle and bin stores. Again this is an impressive area. There is green space nearby, as well as amenities and the Tube Station. This is an interesting project, potentially replacing an old warehouse with new homes for individuals or couples. Crucially, the design considers the location and neighbouring properties. The aim is to ensure it is in keeping with the area and won’t have a negative impact on neighbours. The Council will need to decide whether to give permission or not.
Large HMO issues
Finally, there have been three notable decisions on applications for HMOs in different parts of Harrow. Proposals to convert a property in Wealdstone, increase the size of a HMO on Salisbury Road, and expand a HMO in Harrow Weald all got refused by the council.
The decisions show the council has a number of concerns with HMOs in the borough. They gave several reasons for declining permission, including poor accessibility to public transport. The perceived negative impact on residential areas that are primarily families was also a major concern.
