One of the main election pledges of the Labour Party was their goal to build 1.5 million new homes during their time in power. They’ve made some big strides in achieving it, including unlocking over 100,000 homes on sites that had been struggling to start. They’ve now given details of 6 more projects to push. We want to have a closer look here, then if you want guaranteed rent in Haringey, you can trust us.
New Homes Accelerator
The Government’s headline initiative aims to accelerate the development of larger, priority sites. Impressively, at launch in 2024 there was focus on 350 sites. The estimate is developing them would lead to 700,000 homes. They’ve since made movement on 63,000 new homes. In addition, they are removing barriers to 36,000 more in England.
The recent headline is the next 6 sites for the New Homes Accelerator have been chosen. Two are in London; in Redbridge and Haringey respectively. The remaining four are in Guildford, Wigan, Somerset, and Buckinghamshire. Combined, they have the potential to provide 12,000 homes. Importantly, the estimate is at least 25% of them will be affordable.
While there are many sceptics that Labour can achieve the 1.5 million homes target, they are making good progress. Crucially, the initiative is empowering local councils. It gives them more freedom when it comes to planning and gets rid of some of the most restrictive hurdles so projects can get up and running.

The site in Haringey is at High Road West. It’s an impressive location, close to the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and plenty of local amenities. Notably, the development has had planning permission since 2022. There will now be more support for Lendlease to help get it started. The plans will create 2,600+ homes as well as new amenities for the community and a park. An impressive 40% of the housing will be affordable.
The second site is Billet Road in Redbridge. It’s also a great spot, between Romford and Barkingside in a really green area. Developers Bellway will get additional support now to create a brand new neighbourhood. The plans are fantastic here too, including 1,341 homes, open space, a hub for the community, and safe pedestrian and cycling routes.
Deputy PM Angela Rayner was very positive about the next phase of the New Homes Accelerator. She said the Government is “continuing to take decisive action”. Most importantly, they are working to “get spades in the ground”. Although the voices of sceptics and critics persist, Rayner is bullish in her stand, urging not to underestimate them.
