Bromley has the honour of being the greenest London Borough. If you want to live in part of the city where open space is abundant, this is the spot for you. There are also plans to make the area even greener. We want to have a closer look at all of this here today. Then, if you want services like guaranteed rent in Bromley, you can speak to us.
Everything green
Several factors contribute to Bromley’s title of being the greenest. Firstly, it is still a very rural area. Impressively, a massive 30% of the land is still in use for farming. This includes grazing for animals and more.
To add to the green agricultural land, many miles of Bromley is parkland. In total, the Borough covers 59 square miles. An incredible 9.9 sq/miles is parks and other open green spaces. This accounts to 2,585 hectares. In total there are over 100 different options for locals to go and spend some time outdoors. This includes massive parks like Crystal Palace and Scadbury. There is woodland too, including Hayes Common.
Bromley is also greener when you consider the housing. Because it is a suburban spot, there is a high number of homes with gardens. Anyone looking for a house with its own green space should consider the area. Investors should think about it too, especially considering the quality of our service for guaranteed rent in Bromley.
More greenery
As you’ve read, the area is already very green. However, the Council is also proposing to improve it further with their woodlands establishment project. They are currently proposing to turn three pieces of under-used land into new woodland. The sites in question are Edgebury Grazing Lands and a site on Kemnal Road in Chistlehurst plus land on World’s End Lane in Orpington.
Each piece of land has previously been for grazing, but the council reports they have not had as much use in recent years. As a result, they would like to establish new woodland to support the Net Zero vision for the borough. The woodlands would supply new habitats, provide recreational space, mitigate flood risk, improve air quality, and offset carbon in other parts of the area.
You can view details of the concepts for each of the sites here. There are unique visions for each of them. For example, Edgebury Grazing Lands would feature rides, woodland paths, and glades. Kemnal Road is in a shallow valley. The plan here would allow people to experience the chalk Wyncham Stream.
There have been consultations about the plans already, including at the end of April. The views from them will contribute to a grant application to the Forestry Commission. It will be interesting to see if they come to fruition in the future.
