Different plans to create flats in Croydon

We could soon see a number of new flats in Croydon if projects get permission from the council. It would create hundreds of homes in popular areas where demand is high. We want to look at three recent proposals today. Then, if you need help with guaranteed rent in Croydon, you can speak to us.

Starting small

Firstly is a project to convert a house on St Andrew’s Road in Coulsdon. The plan is to extend the current building outwards. The project would turn the single family home into three flats; a one bed, a two bed, and a three bed.

There would be some wider changes too. For example, there would be a communal garden as well as private gardens for each flat. Plus, there would be bin and bicycle storage for each flat. Two parking spaces with electrical charging stations would be created too.

An application for the project was submitted to Croydon Council in April. A decision should happen later in the year. However, there have been over 130 objections to the plan.

A larger project

The second project is for the demolition of a large Victorian home on Addiscombe Road, Croydon. In its place the developer wants to build a new three storey structure with 9 flats. There would be two three bed, six four bed, and a large six bed flat.

The project would also create two a large communal gardens, bin storage, and parking spaces. The basement would offer space to store 20 bicycles. Flats on the upper floors would also have their own balconies.

The developers submitted their planning application in July. As a result, just like the project above, there is hope Croydon Council will decide before the end of the year. Again there were some objections to the development. This time, at time of writing, there is only a handful though.

A huge project

Guaranteed rent CroydonFinally, we have the biggest project and one of the most interesting ideas for the whole of London. Architects Howells has designs to turn the iconic No. 1 Croydon Tower into flats. An office to residential conversion would create 250 homes in the unique building.

The interesting thing here is the work would retain the exterior of the tower. The owner is actually trying to get the property a listing to preserve it for the future. Internally there would be big changes to create 10-12 flats per floor. It would give people the chance to live in one of the area’s landmark properties, with some fantastic views from the upper floors of the 24 storey building.

It’ll be interesting to see if this project gets permission. It would create a great number of new homes in a busy area where there is a shortage of housing. The expectation is Croydon Council will make a decision about the proposal by 24th September.
