Enfield Council’s leader has said that the borough is to become a “deeply green place”. This was as she welcomed plans to construct almost 10,000 homes on the Green Belt. We want to have a look at the plan today to see how it could improve the area. Then, if you are an investor or landlord and want guaranteed rent in Enfield, you can rely on us.
Lots of new housing
On Wednesday 6th December, the council posted a long-awaited update to its draft Local Plan. Originally, the plan garnered controversy when it was revealed two years ago. Back then, it had details of a plan to ‘de-designate’ Green Belt areas. These are ones that presently have safeguards from development. The change in designation was to allow them to build 6,430 homes here.
In the plan’s new version, the council said it wants to allow the building of a far greater number of homes. The total is 9,651. Of this amount, 7,151 would be built within the plan period up to 2041. Another 2,500 would come later. The two largest sections of Green Belt development are to be at Vicarage Farm and Crews Hill. At the former, the new Chase Park will have 5,500 homes. The latter could see 3,700 in total.
A big boost to housing numbers
In an introduction to the document, the council leader said the Local Plan pinpoints areas of Enfield where they could build new housing. This sets out how they will deliver 34,000 homes by 2041, an increase from the initial plan to build 25,000. The construction will take place all over the borough. This will be good news for buyers and people interested in guaranteed rent in Enfield.
There will be a special focus on urban locales and town centres with good connections. Not to mention, there will be the creation of a new sustainable settlement at Crews Hill. For Chase Park, there will be a sustainable urban extension.
At the Meridian Water development zone in east Enfield, the new Local Plan allocates 7,722 homes to numerous sites. This is while stating that the long term goal is to erect 10,000. It was three months ago when the newest residents at the development moved in, so plans are moving forward already.
Responses
It is not known how many people who responded to the previous plan opposed the Green Belt construction. However, opposition Conservative councillors were fiercely against it. One Tory group leader said that after a record of objections to this draft plan, moving forward with the plan will destroy things locals love about the area.
The Labour administration disputes the claims by the Tories. When they announced the launch of the new Local Plan, they stated they were proud of the draft plan. It will support the delivery of more and superior housing for residents in the right areas of Enfield. The plan will also turn the borough into a deeply green place. It will do so by improving biodiversity, open spaces, woodland, and parks. They will plan for places of leisure, GP surgeries, and schools for residents too. They want to help the local economy flourish.
