A new skyscraper for Greenwich Peninsula gets planning permission

Yesterday Greenwich Council was considering new plans to create a massive new building in a key area of the Peninsula. The site is in a great location, next to the O2 Arena and a short distance from the Tube station at North Greenwich. The proposal got a green light. We want to take a closer look at it here, then if you want guaranteed rent in Greenwich you can rely on us.

A huge development

Guaranteed rent GreenwichThe project by Crosstree is to build a new 36 storey tower on the site. It will provide an impressive 820 student rooms. The developer is specifically targeting students because there are over 11,000 of them living in Greenwich. Many attend Ravensbourne University London in the area or the University of Greenwich in Park Row to the west.

Interestingly, the plan is for 35% of the rooms to be affordable. This will help to deliver more accessible accommodation for low income students.

The skyscraper won’t just be accommodation though. The plan is also for communal gardens, including roof terraces, a study room, and a bar. These will be great spaces for residents to share. Plus, the developer wants to create shops on the ground floor. So, this is a very impressive project and could be a great investment. If you consider investing and then want guaranteed rent in Greenwich, we can arrange it.

A crucial detail

One interesting point of concern here was regarding the roof terraces. During the council meeting, there was a discussion about whether they would be enclosed. The fear was that having them open would allow for things to be thrown from the top of the building.

There was clarification that there would be a railing on the roof terrace level. In addition, the terraces will be on the narrowest part of the building. So, thanks to the tiered design, any items would be unlikely to reach the ground. Instead, they would be most likely to land on a tier just a couple of stories below the terrace.

Getting underway

This is actually the second skyscraper proposal for the site. A project in 2018, also for a 36 storey block, got permission. It would have had 262 flats. However, there was no progress after the planning green light. The original owner AEG chose to sell the site instead. Crosstree bought it, and now we could see work finally underway later this year.
