Former council offices at Chatelain House in Walworth are going to become hundreds of student flats. Also, there will be 23 social rent houses and a new community kitchen under these proposals.

The redevelopment is going to see the 1980s Walworth Road block partially demolished. There will then be remodelling as a pair of six and seven-storey buildings. A Southwark Council planning committee chose to wave the scheme through.

A representative from the applicant, property firm Fabrix, made a statement at the meeting. They said the team was proposing to dramatically remodel the structure. A planning committee of mostly Labour councillors and one from the Liberal Democrats unanimously voted to approve the plans.
