Last year food writer James Read discussed what it is about Harringay that has kept him there for 15 years. His first home was in what Google refers to now as the ‘warehouse district’. Ever since, he has had two moves but chosen to stay in the area. This is despite everything else London has going for it. We want to have a closer look today. Then, if you want guaranteed rent in Haringey, you can speak to us.
For one thing, there is a deeply embedded neighbourhood feel here. At the same time, it is still more accessible than local areas like Crouch End. This means there is no need to be a two-car family.
Food and drink
In terms of eating and drinking, Green Lanes is famous for its Turkish-Kurdish restaurants. These are all wonderful but everyone already knows about them. There is also an intriguing revival of Greek spots here. Athens Grill on Wightman Road is a good choice.
On the other side of Turnpike Lane, you will find Puraan. This is a South Indian place that’s busy despite the fact it is relatively new. It does excellent chilli paneer, paratha, and dosa. The number of wonderful pizza takeaways is also notable. Lastly, there is Durak Tantuni. They sell lamb roll, with a huge portion of pickled chilli as well as lemon slices.
Getting active
For those interested in places to work out, James says Downhills Park works well for a run. There is also Finsbury Park, which Harringay has managed to make an official part of itself. Just off the park you will find the lovely Parkland Walk. It runs up to Archway along an abandoned to-nature railway. It is both a fabulous and surprising locale. Moreover, there is a nice bit of the New River you’re able to access off Wightman road. Contact us if you need the top services for guaranteed rent Haringey has.
Culture fix
For those after a culture fix, James recommends grabbing a book from the All Good Bookshop. There is also the ArtHouse Cinema in Crouch End. It shows independent films and much more. In addition, there is a live performance space, bar, and cafe.
Grocery shopping
This is a surprising thing that has kept James in the area. There are fantastic grocers all the way down Green Lanes. Each one is reasonable but they will sell wildly esoteric products depending on what season it is. You will find anything from cobnuts to persimmons here.
One of the oldest shops is Yasar Halim. It comes with a great bakery for savoury pastries and bread. You should not pass up the baklava at Antepliler either. Additionally, there is a somewhat hidden Italian grocers in the All Stars store. It has a multitude of cheeses and meats alongside all sorts of bronze die pasta.
Commuting
With getting around in Harringay, you can go everywhere but the depths of south London within an hour. James is nearer to Turnpike Lane station than Manor House, but both are on the Piccadilly Line. They also have Harringay Green Lanes and Harringay stations on the Overground. The number 29 bus is here too and goes basically everywhere. There is the 141 bus too.
