One of the things that make Isabella Road and Mehetabel Road special is they aren’t changing, even while the wider area changes. For example, there are plans for a new estate at one end. The latest version would create 163 homes as well as other amenities such as a community centre. However, there are concerns about the proposals, particularly the height and amount of affordable housing.
As well as the new estate, there are other changes in the wider area. This includes proposals for the nearby Tesco supermarket. There are fears they could have a serious impact on the make-up of the area.
There is also the perfect case study of what not to do with regeneration projects nearby; Hackney Walk. The aim was to create a high end fashion hub in the railway arches and some new buildings. However, the £100m project was a failure, ending up as a ghost town before closing permanently.
