Progress on the New Green Estate
Havering Council is in the midst of one of its biggest redevelopment projects. The 12 Estates programme is investing £1b to redevelop the area and create more than 3,500 new homes. The goal is to transform the areas and leave a lasting legacy for the communities.
A number of the projects are in progress here. For example, Waterloo Road estate is in pre-construction with the first phase of homes to become available in summer 2024. Solar Serena Sunrise is under construction with the goal to finish for summer 2023.
The council was planning for the New Green Estate to be ready and people to move in towards the end of 2022. The initial goal was November, but a new date of 5th December was chosen as work was taking longer than expected. Sadly, that deadline was missed and now the opening won’t be until the New Year. The delay is because building control is yet to sign off.
The council said they regret the delay with the New Green Estate. However, they will continue to monitor progress and update residents.
Once the work is complete there will be 197 homes. Of these 126 will be affordable council properties. To date 90 of them have been assigned to local residents. The new housing will help to ease pressure on the council and demand on the local housing register.
The remaining 71 properties are for shared ownership. They will also help to improve the amount of affordable housing in the area, allowing more buyers to take their first step on to the ladder.
