Earlier this month an announcement was made to reveal two projects in Brent can begin. The local authority chose Willmott Dixon to deliver the £28m redevelopments. The first project is the redevelopment of the Learie Constantine Community Centre. This will create 26 new one, two, and three bed apartments. It will also provide a brand new community centre on the ground floor.

The project got planning permission in October 2019 and demolition of the old building is complete. Willmott Dixon can now begin construction of the new 4/5 storey property. The total value of this contract is £12.5m.

Brent Indian Centre

The second project is larger and will also involve the demolition and replacement of a community centre. The total value is £15.64m. This time there will 29 new affordable homes. Three of them will be wheelchair accessible. The other properties will be family-size apartments.

In addition there will be a brand new community centre with modern facilities such as a multi-purpose hall, IT training room, and a commercial kitchen. This will be a fantastic asset for the community. The current centre is only open for a few hours every week. However, once the development is finished it will be open seven days a week for community use.

A new piazza
